July 2020

The Fourth of July was such a fun day this year.  Everything was cancelled for the city celebrations so the folks on liberty Landing took matters into our own hands.  We came up with a committee to make the fourth a huge party.

We started on the third with a "decorate your bike" night for the kids in preparation for the bike parade.  Aunt Kathy was in charge of this and it was held down at the pavilion.  Kids from the family brought bikes, scooters, little cars and all kinds of transportation to decorate.  They all had fun decorating and playing on the playground.  Afterwards we had an adult game of kickball.  rick and I were on different teams and his team REALLY won....meaning they skunked us!  After kickball DeeAnn and Darrell were in charge of the outdoor movie.  this was super fun!  Brad and Ruth brought popcorn and goodies for all and we got comfy for the movie "The Princess Bride".  I could watch that movie once a month.  It is such a classic!  A fun, late night and a good way to start the holiday!

My grandkids all dressed up in their patriotic clothes.  They looked sooo cute!  Zavi was NOT wanting to take pictures.  It was nap time and I think he'd had enough of crazy cousin time:)

Don't the all look adorable!

So the morning of there fourth we woke up early for the 5K.  Rick and I had decorated a end of the race archway but it was very windy that morning and the poor arch got hammered.  It didn't stop our runners, though.  I think we had about fifteen runners and it was fun to cheer them over the finish line.

Next was the bike parade.  Oh my goodness!  Those kids were so adorable.  Aunt Kathy provided candy for the kids to throw out as they rode down the lane.

After the parade we had a nice potluck at the pavilion.  We had a lot of good food with great variety.  It was nice to visit and eat:)
After lunch we started our carnival.  We had about thirteen different booths with prizes.  The kids had fun for a couple of hours playing on a bounce house and earning prizes from the different booths.  To end the afternoon Uncle Trent sponsored a corn hole tournament.  What a fun afternoon.  I confess after the carnival I skipped the corn hole finals for a nice nap in preparation for the evening.

That night we met at Brach and Kendra's for a bbq and fireworks.  Since there were no Grantsville fireworks Brach let off a few of his own fireworks and the kids got to do sparklers.  It was nice to see all of the fun fireworks going off around the city.  It was beautiful!

At the end of July we celebrated Sarah's (30 years) and Kendra's (29 years) birthdays with two family dinners.  Sarah wanted a Monster Cookie cake and Kendra wanted donuts!

For their birthday we got to have a girls date.  These a few ad far between but we loved going to the spa, shopping at Hobby Lobby, having a lunch at Olive Garden, and picking up cookies from Chip.

Int he middle of July Rick and I took a road trip.  We have been taking a road trip during July for a couple of years now.  This year we had planned to go over to North carolina and then drive down into some Southern states but decided with Covid restrictions still going strong that we would stay closer to home.

We started our trip pulling our RV to Bear Lake, UT.  We so enjoyed our days there.  We went biking, spent some time at the lake wave running and playing in the water, and eating good food.

One night we went to the Quick and Tasty.  While it was last it wasn't very quick....or cheap.
We paid $38 dollars for two corn dogs two fries and two shakes.  And then waited FIFTY minutes to get our order.  We chalked it up to experience:)  Those shakes were super good, though!

Fun times at the lake!

Biking the Bear Lake path.

We stayed at the KOA RV park and had a really nice site.

After leaving Bear Lake we drove thru a Preston, Idaho which is a really beautiful area.
We stopped in Blackfoot to drop off our RV and had a nice lunch with Dennis and Karen and Janis.
Hal came a little while later, as well.

We got left late but made it to Idaho Falls where we stayed the night.
We had a fun evening in the Thailand Room at the Black Swan Bed and Breakfast.
We enjoyed some Thai food and the beautiful room!

The next morning Rick dropped me off at a hair salon to get my hair done.  I added some blonde highlights and really liked it. We also stopped at the riverwalk by the falls.  It was really pretty.

After getting some lunch at Johnny Carinos we headed toward Jackson Hole, our next stop.
We stayed in some cute cabins there for a few nights and then moved over to the Springhill Suites for two nights.  Jackson was a full wearing mask town so while we were shopping and sightseeing we had to wear our masks.  Not fun but everyone was doing it.

We tried really hard to find a moose but despite their being MANY signs warning to watch out for moose we never got to see one.  Not for trying though.

We spent a day driving thru Teton Nation Park.  The peaks were beautiful and we enjoyed the scenery so much.

We got the chance to go on a horsehide at Teton Village.  It was nice.

We had breakfast after our ride at a little cafe their in Teton Village and we made the wonderful decision of trying the birthday cake pancakes.  OH BOY, were they good!

The beautiful Tetons.

One night we ate at The Gun Barrel Restaurant.
While the dinner was just so so the appetizer, a cheese dip with chips was super delish!

Our cut little cabin.

Another fun activity we did was a scenic float down the Snake River.
We got to travel with a family from Texas and had a nice conversation with them.
The float was nice and relaxing.

We left Jackson a day earlier than expected to travel toward South Dakota.
We left Sunday morning and got as far as Gillette, Wyoming that evening.

The next morning we went on a small bike ride and got some breakfast at Perkins then made our way to Deadwood City, a two hour drive.  We stayed at the Springhill Suites there.  I didn't like the feeling that was there (a lot of gaming halls) so I suggested that we leave the next day back towards Yellowstone.  He agreed.  But before we left the area we took that evening and drove to Mount Rushmore.  It was the reason that we came to South Dakota.  We had been there before but had not seen the mountain lit up at night.  It was a beautiful drive and we enjoyed the hike and the view:)

The next morning we headed back into Wyoming.  We made a stop at a small town in Dayton to have lunch and found a quaint little antique shop that served sandwiches.  I bought two juicers and a pair of ice skates.  It was such a nice stop that we had to take a couple of pictures to remember it by:)

We tool the scenic route and drove through Bighorn National Park and it did not disappoint.  There were beautiful vistas, a rainstorm, and a waterfall.  So glad we decided to go that way.

We got to Cody with forty five minutes to see the Bill Hickok Museum of the West.  Really this museum would take about three hours to get thru but we only had forty five minutes so we made the best of it:)  Afterwards, we did a little shopping in the cute main street shops.  Cody was such a pleasant surprise.  It was what I was hoping Deadwood City would be.  Just a fun old fashioned western town....without the gaming halls and brothels.

The next morning we drove through Yellowstone Park.  We saw a few Buffalo.  This one was up close and personal from the safety of our car.

The last stop of our road trip was in Island Park, Idaho.  We were lucky enough to get town nights at the brand new Springhill Suites right on the North fork of the Snake River.  We took a half a day and floated on tubes down the river.  Got a little bit sunburned in the process but enjoyed the eperrience. There was a seriously good Mexican restaurant close to the hotel and a wonderful hot tub on the main floor of the Marriott.  We sure enjoyed our room there:)

July was a full of fun!  Another one for the memory books!
