Capitol Reef 2019

Last weekend we traveled to Capitol Reef with Skylar and Sarah and the kids for a few days of playing.  We stayed at the Broken Spur Motel( like we always do) and had a great time!  Our room was very cute and inviting.  I loved the rustic, western feel of the room and especially liked the stitched pillow that said, "kick off your boots and stay awhile".  And we did!

We got there late afternoon so before dinner we took a dip in the pool.  The water was warm  (the jacuzzi was divine) and the kids got to try out their new floaties.  They both learned how to maneuver the water on their own with their flotation devices.  After the mishap with Charlie falling into the deep end while visiting St. George last month it was decided that floaties were definitely needed!

Early the next morning after a nice breakfast we headed out on the ATV's for some trail riding.  We had to get bundled because it was pretty chilly!  Luckily, we had no rain and were able to stay warm with the help of blankets.  The sun actually came out for a bit to warm us up as well:)  Skylar and Sarah and the kids took the larger ranger and Rick and I took the two seater Razor.

Cute little Daisy!

It was a beautiful drive!  We stopped for a bit and did some exploring.  The boys were in heaven climbing all over the big rocks and finding many kinds of fun small rocks to fill their pockets.
The sandstone is so cool!  It makes some beautiful formations.

....and The Phelps Family:)

With all the rain this spring, the flowers were in abundance!  Just all over!

After our ATV ride we dropped back to the motel and had some pb&j, courtesy of Sarah:)  After a quick lunch we let the kids rest a bit and then headed out on our second adventure.  We drove over to Chimney Rock and hiked a little with the kids.  We found some "crystal" rocks for Henry and explored the red mountain.  It was a little warmer than the morning so it was a very pleasant afternoon for us.

After Chimney Rock we stopped at the cute little store in Fruita and got a treat.  They were out of their specialty pies and cinnamon rolls so we got a little ice-cream while Charlie decided on a sucker:)  Then we drove the short distance to the park and let the kids run and play.  I, however, took a nap in the car.  (Feeling run down from my cold:(

That evening Rick and I enjoyed a drive around the area (through the cute little town of Teasdale).
then we had a wonderful dinner with the kids at the motel's restaurant.

The next morning we wanted to give Skylar and Sarah a little time to themselves (with baby Daisy:) so we took Henry and Charles on a drive on the ranger.  While it was super cold riding, once we got to our destination we were able to get out and do some exploring.  The little cuties!
They are so precious!

After getting back the kids took a dip in the pool while Rick an I picked up some subway sandwiches for the group.  We then drove back to Fruita's park for a little picnic in the sunshine.  After that we drove over to the visitor's center to get to the trailhead for the "waterfall" hike.  We have been doing this hike since OUR kids were little.  It is about a thirty minute hike (forty with little ones) to a fun little waterfall and waterhole area that the kids like to swim in.  We all had water shoes because we have learned that 'feet will get wet' on this hike.  Anyway, we all had a fun time finding lizards and walking through the river.  It was just enough adventure to end our trip.

Such a fun time with the Phelps family.  What a wonderful tradition.
We love Capitol Reef!
