August Happenings 2020

August seemed to fly by.  We made the most of it by camping with thekids, enjoying a sunrise, the nice cool evening weather, taking a trip to Ketchikan, and celebrating birthdays.

One morning I woke up early.  About 4:45.  I waited for 45 minutes for Rick's alarm to go off.  When it did I leaned into him andsaid, "you wanna do something spontaneous?"
He responded sleepily, "Like what?"
I said, "Drive up to the reservoir and watch the sun rise."
He thought a minute and then said, "Sure.  Sounds like fun."
And so we did.
We enjoyed a beautiful view and some good conversation:)

Early in the month we had an RV overnighter up at South Willow with Rafe, Scout, and Haivyn.  Charlie had woken up sick that day so Henry and Charlie had to miss out.  We were so sad about that:(

Rick pulled the trailer up early Friday morning and lo and behold we could not find an empty site.  Finally after driving thru all of the campgrounds the ranger told us of one spot that was still available.  We were happy to find it!  We set up camp right near a stream and it worked really well for us.

Later that evening we brought the kids up in the ranger.  I had prepared some "uncle Johnny's chili" for navajo tacos.  The kids had fun exploring the area and playing in the stream.  Haivyn found us a snake up by the latrine.  Rick thought it was just a rubber snake left by someone but then he saw it moving through the grass.  "Uh, this is real."  While it was an interesting looking snake with red, black, and white stripes we determined it was not poisonous.  We stayed away from the latrine after that anyway.

Brach and Kendra joined us for dinner.  They brought their horses Captain and Blaze and we were able to go on a little ride.  After dark the Bomans left with their littles Brady and Chole and the others stayed with us overnight.  We were able to put on a fun movie for them and then by 11 get them off to sleep:)  They woke early ready to play.  After a cereal and donut breakfast we enjoyed taking the ranger up to the loop looking for deer.  We found one (as well as a squirrel:).  We also took some time in the cave at the lower narrows.  The kids like to look for "diamonds" there.  Then our last stop was the rope swing over the creek.  This swing was the hit of the day.  They loved taking turns getting as high as they could!

Fun times!

Kendra, Sarah and I enjoyed one last afternoon at the pool.  It was closing down the weekend before school started back up.  We're thankful for cool water on the hot Grantsville days!

A few months ago Rick invited me to join in Alaska a few days before his fishing trip with Sunnie Titmus.
I was reluctant to go but he was really excited about it so I agreed.

It was a really nice time.  Our first flight with this whole Covid mess.  It went pretty smoothly just uncomfortable with the masks.  We also had to take a Covid test to be able to get into the State.  That went pretty smoothly.  Just did a throat swab and sent it to Texas via FedEx.  We got our results back the next day and then had to register with the state of Alaska letting them know we were in the clear.

We arrived to a rainy Ketchikan and it pretty much stayed that way the whole four days we were there.
That didn't stop us from having a good time, though.

Some things we did were:
biked
hiked
ate crab legs
bought new hats
went bear watching
walked around Ward Lake
watched salmon swimming upstream
ate more crab legs
did some souvenir shopping
led a Come Follow Me fireside discussion
had church

and oh, did I mention
bought a new diamond ring!

I really shouldn't walk into a jewelry store.
Ever.

August was very good to us.  After our time in Ketchikan I flew to Vegas to spend time with my parents while Rick stayed on and joined others for six days of salmon fishing.  They didn't catch a whole lot (a full box divided three ways) but they enjoyed their time together.

August Birthdays

We had three August birthdays.  Henry was first on the 8th.  He turned SIX years old and got to have     TWO parties.  One with friends and one with family.  He was so happy with his new legos and roller blades.  He is so adorable!  We just love him so much!

Sarah made an Avatar: The Last Airbender cake at Henry's request:)

Then our Sky Boy turned THIRTY on the 10th.  We are so happy to have him as our son.  It is wonderful to see him be an amazing husband and father in his own family.

Lastly, it was this cuties birthday on the 21st.  He turned a big THREE years old.
Merik is our quiet boy and very even tempered.  He had a spiderman cake and got a bunch of Spiderman presents!  We love this little guy so much!
