Siem Reap, Cambodia (Day 2)

Day two in Siem Reap started out with a full breakfast and then off for a day of touring temple ruins.

When we stopped to get tickets for the day's tour Rick found a shop and bought a new shirt.  By the end of the day he bought two more in different colors:-)

My little tourist!!

Our first stop was Angkor Wat, the famous temple.  I must admit that I had heard the name but had no idea what Angkor Wat was.  What a delightful place!
Angkor Wat is the largest religious site in the world.  It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the name translates into City Temple.
It was constructed in the early 12th century and in the beginning was a Hindu temple but shortly after it was built became a Buddhist temple and has remained so to this day.

It was a beautiful temple and very interesting to see inside.

There were a few monkeys roaming about the place.

Just inside the temple is the Hindu God Vishnu.

I love this picture with the reflection of Angkor Wat in the water.

A young Buddhist monk.

Our next stop was Angkor Thom

This one had many buddha faces throughout.  I mean....everywhere!

We had a little fun with them:)

Lots of tuk tuk taxis lined up waiting for customers.

Next stop was our favorite!

Ta Prohm

This place was like something out of Jungle Book.  So fascinating with all of the trees growing out of the ruins.  Every turn was just incredible.  Seriously, we could have spent another hour or two just exploring the place.  Photo ops everywhere and just so beautiful!

I mean just look at these pictures.....

This is one place that we would love to come back to and spend more time.  Our kids would love exploring these ruins.  I can honestly say that I have never sweat so much in my life!  Our whole group was just dripping wet.  It was such a hot and humid day but seriously, so awesome!!

A good day in Siem Reap!!

  1. Thanks for sharing the memories of your trip. Really, Cambodia is a place which is full of beauty with nature. There are so many places where you can enjoy a lot. This place is famous for Angkor Wat temple, Baryon Temple, Pub street etc. Last year I had gone to this place to spend the summer vacation with my family. We traveled all the beautiful places of Cambodia with the help of (siemreapprivatetour.com) and our trip was superb.
