We left Iquitos and flew into TRUJILLO.
We stayed at the Wyndham Costa del Sol and had a nice room on the second floor.
We arrived at night and had already eaten dinner so we went to bed.
The next morning was Sunday so we went to church there in Trujillo. The hotel provided a wonderful breakfast buffet included with our stay. We attended sacrament Meeting the California Ward. We met a nice couple who were from Kaysville. they took us into their office where we could watch the Boman kids via Zoom do their Primary Program. The kids were so cute and thankfully we were able to get good enough service to watch the program.
Since it was the Sabbath day we just spent the rest of the day in our room resting.
This is the view from our balcony.
There are two resident llamas that stay there.💓
The next morning, the 17th, Rick got up early and rented a car from the airport. We used the car the rest of our stay in Trujillo.
We found a plaza to walk around and do some shopping and exploring through the area.
I loved the ribbon shop and had to buy some to bring home.
Later that day we drove out to Huanchaco to be by the ocean.
While we were there we found a jewelry booth run by a woman named Elvira. We commissioned her to make a bunch of bracelets for our grandkids and for me. She got to work.
In the meantime we had a nice dinner with a view of the ocean. We got a cll while we were at dinner and Elvira needed to get going so we finished up and ran back to pick up our bracelets.
Afterwards we got to watch the sunset. It was nice!
The next morning we got up early to get to the Trujillo Temple. The real reason we came to Trujillo.
We did a session there which was nice.
We then made our way to the Chan Chan Archaelogical Site.
Chan Chan was the largest city in the pre-Columbian area. Circa 900 to1470 AD.
We saw just a small portion of it.
The ruins were amazing with designs in the sandstone structures. The designs were very detailed and it truly is amazing that they have stood the test of time.
Later that day we took a plane back to Lima where we stayed the night back at the Historic Sheraton where our trip began. We walked around the Historic District throughout the day and had a nice lunch and some churros. We got all packed up and tried to catch an UBER. We had to wait forty five minutes for him to get to us through all of the terrible traffic and we were afraid that wen would miss our flight. Miraculously we got to the airport in time. We caught the redeye the and flew straight to Atlanta where we had a little bit of a layover and then flew HOME!! Our trip to Peru was such an amazing adventure! We got to see and do so much and check off TWO items form our bucket list...Machu Picchu and the Amazon river and jungle! What. A. Trip!
