The 4th of July was a busy and full day.
We started off on the 3rd by getting over to the 3 on 3 bball tournament to man the Interfaith Food Drive box. We didn't get much.
The next morning we got up early to get over to the flag raising ceremony at the fire station.
After the flag raising they had a nice program with actors teaching us about some of the important people involved in the Revolutionary War.
After the ceremony we drove on over to the city park to set up the food drive box for the parks festivities.
Then we went back to where the parade was to begin and got our shade set up.
The families started showing up shortly before the parade was to start.
Oh my goodness! The cuteness level is off the charts!
Phelps Family
Rick and I sporting our red, white and blue!
Eric's hair!😂
Charlie's laid back coolness...
Let the parade begin...
Adorable girl cousins!
And boy cousins!
Brach and Kendra
How cute is this old ice cream truck!
I love how they love being together!
These are the salad days!
During the parade Rick started to feel sick.
It just got worse from there. He was down for the whole weekend and ended up missing the rest of the festivities.😒
That meant that I had to man the food drive box on my own.
Guess what? We didn't get much. this food drive was not very successful.
We will try to get the word out better next year.
I got there and grabbed some lunch from the food trucks, chicken and fries.
I called Kaitlyn and told her if she brought the kids out I'd get them some food and a snow cone.
I felt bad that the kids missed the parade but hope they had a little fun at the park.
Just before 4PM the clouds started rolling in and it DOWNPOURED!!
I was soaked clear through by the time I made it to my car.
I went home and took a nice warm bath and got into some dry clothes.
After resting for a bit I had to leave Rick again (he slept all the day and night anyway)
and head out to the Bomans for a bbq dinner and fireworks.
I had prepared this chocolate strawberry cake for a fun patriotic dessert.
It was yummy.
Here's the table of food. We had plenty of salads and hot dogs and hamburgers.
I brought some baked beans and Doug walked by and whispered, "these are the BEST baked beans I have ever had." that made me feel good!😀
Truly, all the food was yummy!
We enjoyed eating and playing until it was time for the fireworks.
Just before 10PM we had a number of families join us in the backyard to see the fireworks.
It was a spectacular show and we all dispersed pretty quickly to avoid the traffic getting back home.
I was stuck in the middle of it so my six minute drive took twenty five minutes.
It's ok, though. It had been a great day filled with family, food and fun! I'm just sorry Rick had to miss most of it!
