9/11 Day of Service

On Saturday (9/27) we had our 9/11 Day of Service.  This was a project headed by Rick and me, the mayor, and two high councilors...one from each stake in Grantsville.  We had been planning it for months.  The mayor is leaving office next year and wanted to have us come together as a community and spruce up the cemetery.  We printed banners and flyers and included the youth from the community to help spread the word.  I think we counted about seventy-ish people, and we definitely could have used more, but overall it was a successful project.

We had a group cleaning the headstones....

another painting the gazebo....

another unearthing old family plot lines...

another picking up all of the branches from the many trees that had been trimmed...

edging and weeding....

and lastly raising some of the stones that had sunken under the grass so they could be seen.

It was A LOT of work and not gonna lie, my body hurt afterwards....especially my knees!
Ugg!  Gettin' older!

Later that evening after watching Rafe play the second half of his game,
we went out to Capital Grill for a scrumptious dinner to celebrate both of our birthdays.
The food was great, except for my steak that was sadly undercooked.
The manager was very kind and did not charge us for it which was nice because this place is NOT cheap!
They then brought us out two wonderful dessert plates that we LOVED!

I love living life with my best friend in the whole world!!💋

Birthday Trip to Phoenix

For my birthday this year Rick and I took a quick trip down to Phoenix.
We caught a late afternoon flight leaving after Rick's Temple Service.
We arrived without delay and were able to grab an amazing dinner at none other than the old Garcia's Restaurant.  We hadn't been to that restaurant for years, and...oh my goodness, it was super delish!
It didn't help that we were really hungry by the time we got there.

We were able to stay at the Courtyard for those couple of nights.
Rick got up early the next morning to do some initiatory work at the Phoenix Temple.  He had never been there, and I had, so he needed to go see it.  After he got back we both drove over to the Gilbert Temple for a session there.  I love the Gilbert Temple, and it was nice to be back.

After our session we met up with Robert and Mary at Oregano's Restaurant.  It is a family favorite for them.  We had never been there so we were excited to go.  While the food was good, the exciting part was the visit with Robert and Mary.  They are amazing people and we loved catching up with them and the goings on in their family.  After lunch we drove to their home that they bought a couple of years ago.  They did a big remodel just after moving in, and we got the grand tour.  It is a beautiful home in a beautiful neighborhood.  Their backyard and pool area is truly amazing!

That evening we stopped and had a light dinner at PF Changs.
I had TWO gift cards in my purse, so we got to use one up.

That night we enjoyed relaxing at the hotel and doing a little swimming.

The next morning was MY BIRTHDAY!!  I turned fifty eight this year!
We decided to go to breakfast (since I love a good breakfast) and we found a First Watch not too far from our hotel.

My food was too good!  I ordered the lemon pancakes with the meal, and they did not dissapoint!

That afternoon we just fiddled around Scottsdale.
We found a fun toy/candy store and had a hoot reading cocktail napkins with the funniest sayings.
We ended up buying a book that was published by the company that makes the napkins.
We're easy to entertain!  HaHa!

After that we went back to the hotel for a rest and then headed out for the evening.
We drove to downtown Phoenix and had dinner at The Kettle Black Irish Pub.
Who doesn't like good pub food?

The real reason to go to Phoenix?
Another MLB game!
We stopped at the official store and bought us the needed merch to look like fans:)
It was a fun game except for the disrespectful and loud Philly fans sitting behind us.

You know, last year when we went to our first ball game...the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field just hooked us.  It has been really fun to get to so many games.  I think this tradition will continue until we see all the teams....maybe:)

The next morning we got up super early to go on a balloon ride.
We drove thirty minutes to get to the meeting place.  After getting signed in we rode for another forty minutes to get to the balloon launch.

We got to see this beautiful sunrise.

And got to watch the balloon being filled.

Other balloons launched before us, and it was a breathtaking sight!

Finally we were up, up and away.

We flew for about forty five minutes reaching a height close to a mile.
It was very peaceful and nice.

Afterwards we were treated to a small breakfast.
It wasn't much to write home about, but that's ok.
We had an experience.

After the flight we headed back to our hotel, packed our bags and got over to the airport to catch our flight home.  We flew Frontier Airlines which saved us a bit of money and worked out just fine.
Happy Birthday to me!!

Dinner with friends

Recently Rick and I were able to go to Olive Garden with the McCords.
Both Tiffani and I have birthdays in September so it was nice to go to dinner to celebrate.
Sean was super excited because he loves Olive Garden.
Needless to say we had a fun time with this amazing family.  Rick and I are so grateful for our calling that has allowed us to be able to get to know them and love them as brothers and sisters.

Group shot just outside of the restaurant.

Sean's all smiles!

Tiff with her Tiramisu

Me with my tuxedo cheesecake!

WYATT CLYDE BOMAN IS BORN

We have another baby born into the Phelps family.
Kendra's water broke on Sunday September 7th.  She had been scheduled to be induced on Tuesday but her body had other ideas.  She called me about 3 PM that Sunday and let me know that she would be going in.  I headed straight to her house.  They got on their way and I (along with Leesa) helped the kids get packed up for a few days.  We also helped the kids get their rooms cleaned up and ended up folding a few batches of laundry while we were there.  Someone from their ward had brought over some homemade tomato basil soup and Leesa said I should take it to feed the kids.  I gladly said I would!

Leesa took Rafe with her while I had the other three with me.  We got back to the house and made up some grilled cheese to go with the delicious tomato soup.
Rick had left the day before to go fishing for a week so it was just me taking care of the kiddos.
We played games, got baths in and then settled in for a Disney movie. By the time it was finished there was still no word on a new baby.  The kids went to bed excited at the thought of a new baby in the morning.  All the kids slept in my room.

I fell asleep around 10:30 while she was having contractions about every 1-3 minutes and was fully dilated.  I woke up around 12:30 with this beautiful picture.

Brach said, "he has brown hair for sure."

We had all been wondering if he was going to have red hair like his brothers.
He was born at 11:38 PM and weighed 8 lbs 2 oz and is 20 1/2 inches long.

The kids were super excited when they woke up and Scout didn't want to go to school.  I told them their mom would be sleeping after a long night and that we'd go visit after school.
I lulled around that morning thinking I would wait to go in so she cold rest.
I got there around 11:00 and got to hear the birth story and hold that little bundle of joy!
He is SO sweet and I am so thankful that he is here safe and sound.

I picked up the kids after school and they each oohed and awed over him and took a chance to hold him.  They went in order of age....

Grandma and Grandpa Boman came just after we got there.

A beautiful family of SEVEN!

This is number twelve grandchild which brings us to an even dozen.  We are so blessed!

Welcome to the world Wyatt Clyde Boman!!

UTAH STATE FAIR

Rick and I were able to take Kaitlyn and the kids to the Utah State Fair this year.  It has been quite a few years since we had been.  We got to walk through exhibits, see lots of farm animals, eat some fair food, and ride some rides.  It was very warm outside but we enjoyed all of the activities.

Here is a picture of Kaitlyn trying out a new straightener.  It straighten really well but cost $150!!
We passed on that.

Haivyn spends her money on this interesting doll/stuffed animal that Kaitlyn says is all the rage right now.  I can't even remember the name other than it cost $25.  Crazy!

Here are a few rides that everyone (but me) went on.
The ferris wheel...

The scrambler....

and the tidal wave....

During all of the fun Rick had to get a funnel cake with strawberries.  I don't have a picture of the cake but he loved it!

Group shot 😀

Towards the end of our time there we each got dinner.
Kaitlyn had a pulled pork sandwich.
Haivyn and Merik shared some chicken tenders and fries.
Rick and I each had a Philly Cheesteak sandwich.
The food was delicious and SUPER expensive!

Kaitlyn wanted to get a picture by the monster truck.
