After enjoying a day on the Cape we were anxious to get back to Concord's beauty. We drove straight over to the little boat shop that we had passed a few days before. When I saw that boat shop I KNEW I wanted to rent a boat and go for a little ride on that beautiful Concord River.
It was such a beautiful day and the river was very calm. We passed a few other others on small canoes but otherwise it was a very calm, pretty ride.
We passed by some beautiful homes situated on the river and also found some geese along the way. We had to chase them down a bit:)
We rowed all the way to the Old North Bridge which was about a mile downstream, then back to the boathouse. We MAY have passed a little too close to some trees and Rick MAY have had his new hat knocked into the river:)
This is the fellow who helped us with our little canoe.
He was interesting and nice:) He said he has been going to Utah to ski for several years and has a house by one of the ski resorts.
The next morning we drove over to the Lexington Battle Ground and found this beautiful tree. There was a class of little pre-schoolers playing in the leaves. So adorable!
I had to get a picture under this amazing tree!
This is the monument dedicated to those patriots who gave their life the night the Revolutionary War began.
After grabbing some lunch at a fun deli we had a picnic under a tree in the park at the battleground. What a fun little memory of such a beautiful and pleasant area.
We next drove up to Kennebunk. The drive was SPECTACULAR! I think the colors were even more vibrant than when we had driven down the week before. Lots of reds, golds, orange, and green!
Kennebunkport never disappoints. I can safely say that it is one of our most favorite spots in the US. We have made fun memories the few times we have been there.
And to be there in the fall was an absolute dream!
There were lots of houses decked out for Halloween!
Here are a couple...
The spiders kinda creeped me out!
Rick got his fill of Lobster Rolls! Three in one dish!
I mean.....😃
Everywhere we looked it was amazing!
We stopped at the beach for a picture by the water.
We left Kennebunkport with our hearts and bags full and drove the hour up to Portland for the last hurrah of our trip. We went on a lobster boat into the Atlantic just off the mainland among islands and learned about the Maine lobstering passion. It was So. Much. Fun.
We stopped at three different locations and when the traps came up it was fun to see what was inside.
All of the traps had seaweed, crabs, and LOBSTER! We learned how the lobsters get trapped inside of the trap and how to bait it. It is amazing to think of how many lobsters are on the ocean floor in this area. I could see how it would be fun to be a local resident and have a few traps that you could check every few days. Definitely not in the winter, though!
We threw the crabs back in and watched the seagulls try to get them before they sunk back to the bottom. Most of them weren't fast enough but a few lucky ones got off with dinner.
We learned how to tell if the crab is a male or female and the size of an acceptable catch. The crew at Rocky Bottom Tours were very friendly and taught us a lot about lobstering. It was nice that there were only 12 of us on the boat. We all got to be as hands on as we wanted to be. I wasn't too sure about it at first but then decided I better get a hold of one before I miss my chance. It was good fun! (Did I say that already?)😉
After our lobstering excursion we headed off to the airport to catch our flight home. It was such a beautiful, memorable trip!
