Happy 250th America!!

This year marks the 250th birthday of our country.  We had a wonderful celebration!

The night of the third, Rick and I set up a food donation for the Tooele County Food Bank up at the 3 on 3 basketball tournament held at Grantsville Elementary.  The food drive was part of the Interfaith council's service project.  There were a few different food drives across the county.  This year's was MUCH better than last year's.  We feel like it was a success!

On the Fourth, Rick and I attended the early morning flag raising ceremony at the fire station.  Eric Allred and Dave Fawson were the keynote speakers.  Their were two special musical numbers from people in the community.  Also, an old tattered flag was retired.  It was a really enjoyable program.

Next we got set up for the parade.  We had gone the afternoon before to set up our family's spot.  I'm glad we did because those spots were getting taken up pretty early.  We brought a couple of shades because it was forecast to be a HOT day.  We were thankful for the shade.  There was quite a group with us.  We had Sarah and her kids minus Charles, Brach and Kendra and their kids, Kaitlyn and her kids, Clyde and Sharon along with Matt and Hunter and Ben and Brianna and their kiddos.  Also Justin and Julie set up a tent right next to ours so we had a lot of kids vying for the candy.  Not to worry though...there was plenty to go around.  Skylar and Charles were actually IN the parade this year with Charlie's soccer team.  They threw candy and passed out little soccer balls.  I'm sure they were super hot walking that long distance!

After the parade we came home and rested in the AC.  Thank goodness for Air Conditioning.  

How in the world did our pioneer ancestors do without it??

That evening we had our annual bbq at Brahc and Kendra's home.

We had chicken, burgers and dogs with plenty of sides.  It was nice to visit with the Boman family and watch the kids play.  The fireworks were amazing just like always.  Brach put on a playlist of patriotic songs during the fireworks show and that made it especially nice.  The fireworks went for about twenty five minutes.

PHELPS FAMILY REUNION 2026

This year's reunion wea put on by the Home family.  Dennis and Karen did not feel that they could be the ones in charge this year (because it's just plain a LOT OF WORK to host) so they asked Kamber to take over.  We Phelps sisters helped do some planning, as well.  Kamber was the only child of the Hones that was going to be there so there were no sibling to help.  

It turned out very well.  Fot the night prior to the reunion Kathy planned for time at Ken's Gym and a hot dog roast at her firepit after that.  After it got dark DeeAnn was in charge of planning an outdoor movie.  DeeAnn provided goodies for the kids and Kathy brought stuff for nachos.  Chris brought his popcorn machine, as well.

I was excited because DeeAnn said that they were going to watch The Princess Bride...but the movie got changed to The Incredble Mr. Fox??  I think that was the name.  I watched for about forty five minutes and then decided I'd rather be sleeping in my bed.  

The next morning there was a flag raising ceremony that Dennis was in charge of.  He gave a nice poem about the flag that a fellow veteran had written.  We also sang the national anthem and then raised the flag.  It was very nice.

I left shortly thereafter to attend our Stake's Women's conference.  Kathy, Serenity, and Lizzie were all teaching seperate classes.  I was able to get to Kathy's and Reni's and they both did a fantastic job.  

Afterwards, we came back for the main part of our reunion.  We had a potluck lunch with Kamber preparing the main dish of pulled pork sandwiches.  There were over one hundred members of the family that came and supported the reunion this year.  We had a fun time visiting with each other, playing a corn hole tournament and having a little program to share what is happening in each other's families.

For our part, Rick told about what each of our kids are up to these days.  Charles also was able to show off his great piano playing abilities.  He's truly amazing!
