This past weekend Rick and I hosted our grandkids' Halloween Party.
We will be gone for most of October so we had to have this traditional party earlier than normal.
That actually works out great because the kiddos can be wearing their Halloween jammies longer.
We started with the younger kids party on Thursday evening.
They all came with high hopes of a scavenger hunt.
While they wanted to get going right away on that I insisted since it was after 6PM that we have dinner first. I had been feeling under the weather with a cold virus for a few days previous (and have yet to fully recover from) so for this party I took the easy route and bought a frozen pizza and added pepperoni for a Jack-o-lantern face. I added some watermelon as a side and voila' we had a dinner.
The kids enjoyed drinking from their new Halloween cups that I bought them:)
Everything looked so cute with the new spider web placemats that Kendra bought me for my birthday and a cute Halloween print paper plate.
After dinner we had a scavenger hunt all around the house. It was fun watching them run to find each new next clue. Their prizes were found underneath the dining room table.
Their prizes included google eye glasses, rubber snakes, spider rings, vampire teeth and candy that we had them save for the movie. They all had fun showing off their new zombie look!
Grandpa story time involved a little witch who saved Halloween!
Not scary at all. We didn't want them to have nightmares!
After storytime the kids each had a bath and then they got to put on their new Halloween duds.
They sure look so cute in them!
We ended our fun night watching Monsters Inc. which we haven't seen for years.
Daisy was the first asleep, and grandpa slept with the boys while Daisy and Chloe slept in the room across the hall. Daisy came into my bed about 5AM but I told her I was sick and couldn't have her in my bed, so she went back and they all slept until 7:30.
These little monsters are so fun!!!
The next night was the party for the older kids.
We started at 6PM with a fun dinner.
I made salsa for the chips as well as a taco spider ring.
I though it turned out pretty cute.
Thanks to Rick's help it worked out well.
I bought the kids little plastic goblets which they loved drinking root beer from.
Then we had the scavenger hunt for these kiddos.
Their's was outside, and they had to run from front to back a number of times to find the clues!
They're treasure was found downstairs in the Africa room.
They basically got the same toys as the younger kids and had fun with the zombie look, as well.
Happily there was a completely full moon and so we were able to get a good picture from the gazebo.
I could tell that the kids wanted to continue playing outside so grandpa went and got the little whirly rockets for them to play with.
Next Rick had the scary story time.
This story was called The Hairy Toe.
He had the kids enthralled, but he made the ending really dumb (according to Rafe)
so grandpa told them the real ending where the lady "was never heard from again" and Rafe thought that was better ending.
After story time was showers and pj time. We got our annual picture and then all of us went downstairs for a movie. Aren't these kids so cute!
Most of the kids wanted to watch Harry Potter, but Henry and I wanted to watch Ella Enchanted, so we split up with grandpa taking most of the kids upstairs to our bedroom and Henry (and Scout for about ten minutes) stayed down in the basement.
These were fun parties to host, and our Halloween tradition is going strong. I pulled up some pictures from our very first Halloween party in 2016 and the four oldest were so cute and little at the time. It is fun to see them growing up, and we will definitely keep this tradition alive!
