Our Phelps Sisters trip this year consisted of eight of us....Karen, Darla, DeeAnn, Kathy and myself along with some nieces Kamber, Erin, and Jenni.
Karen wrote about it and sent it to all of us. I will not attempt to rewrite because she writes in so much detail. Here goes.....
March 12, 2020 Thursday
Hi all you Oregon Coast Travelers,
Well, we had another wonderful Sister's Getaway last week--Trip Number 11, and it indeed turned out to be really NICE!! Our rental home in Lincoln City was Great--big and roomy, with huge windows facing the gorgeous ocean, an ideal hot tub on the deck, a ground-floor filled with interactive games like foosball, ping pong, pool, and air hockey, and a Great Room for us to sit around in, gazing at the ocean while talking and laughing.
Thank you all for coming and making it such a fun time! We did lots of our 'usual' things--like walking along the beach, making a couple trips over to Newport, taking pictures of the sea lions off the boardwalk, shopping at the souvenir shops, buying leather items at the leather store, "oohing and aahing" at the huge crested waves at Depot Bay, browsing and buying bargains at the Outlet Mall, and finding and eating at our favorite scrumptious Restaurants. All those things were pleasant and enjoyable, and our time at the house--playing games, talking, eating goodies, and just being together--were really wonderful! (Oh, and several of us tried on and even bought lots of Rings!!) :)
Five of us sisters were on this trip, as well as three nieces, making for a good little group that filled up two cars nicely. It was Janell, Karen, Darla, DeeAnn, and Kathy, as well as Kamber, Erin, and Jenni. The sleeping arrangements worked out pretty good, with Kam and Erin taking the bottom bunks of the twin beds, Kathy and Jenni sharing a king bed, DeeAnn and Karen sharing a king bed, Janell a queen room, and Darla Belle being the 'brave one' who slept in the main-floor bedroom All By Herself--with threepotentially Scary doors leading to the outside!!(I would've been really nervous in that bedroom myself, but Darla is a real BRAVE soul!) :)
Oh, and I should mention that we started out this fun time by stopping at the Old Spaghetti Factory in Tualatin after renting cars and leaving the airport, and the restaurant took up LOTS of our time because they were so slow--but our food was Delicious!! And the second day we were there, we went to the Walmart store in Newport and bought tons of fabulous food which we snacked on for the rest of our time there.,,,(or was that at the Safeway??)
Also, I will name the restaurants we went to--if I can remember them...! That first morning, Tuesday, we went to The Pig and Pancake where some of us had lunch and others had the breakfast. I think we were over in Newport and went to Georgie's that night--one of our favorite places while in Oregon! :) Wednesday we ate stuff at the house that morning and had lunch at the fancy restaurant on the 10th floor of the Inn at Spanish Head. I LOVE that restaurant because of the fantastic VIEW, and I think it's interesting that the Bathroom even has huge windows so you can see the ocean from there!
Some of our group went back to the house and took naps and just relaxed, while others took off and went sight-seeing and enjoyed the gorgeous ocean.
That evening we purchased a big bundle of wood, a package of firestarter, some cheese-filled sausage hot dogs and buns and, for supper, had a fun 'wiener roast' out around the firepit in our back yard. The roaring fire was really beautiful and so very fitting right there by the ocean, like that.
Thursday morning again we just ate things there at the house and headed out to the Outlet Mall. I can't remember eating lunch anywhere particular, (??) but we drove over to Seal Rock and had ice cream cones at the regular little place there. That evening we ate at one of our favorite places--Kyllo's right by the water's edge, and enjoyed delicious seafood dishes (for the most part...).
Friday morning we packed up everything and left the house by 9:30 for an early airplane departure that afternoon. We sincerely thank Darla and Kathy for doing most of the driving for us. They were GREAT!! Most of our time was taken up with getting back to the airport and turning in our cars, so we didn't have lunch till we got all settled by our gate and had time to order airport food--sandwiches mostly. Then we headed out for home and had an uneventful safetrip all the way back. Our landings and take-offs were so smooth--we all commented on it and praised the pilot!
This isn't very 'all-inclusive' information, so if anyone wants to take it upon themselves to write out our fun vacation in more precise detail, you're sure welcome to do so. Please know I had a marvelous time and am SO GLAD that all of you put forth the effort to make this little trip so very enjoyable. I love you all and sincerely appreciate you and your good ways!!
Love, Karen--(the OLDEST!!) :)
And then this from DeeAnn.....
As I was reading I thought I would add just a couple of things....
In the hot tub we talked about experiences we have had - some funny, some serious. And I mostly remember stories and thoughts the young mothers told about motherhood. We had some good laughs! And I heard some sweet, tender experiences with their children. I LOVED our talk in the hot tub!
Then also.... around the fire pit.... someone suggested (Darla?) that we each tell.... ?? What was it? I can’t remember the precise rules .....but we ended up telling all sorts of trivia! And we got onto lots of gospel subjects and people started reminiscing about answers to their prayers! It was really a wonderful talk around the campfire! I loved it, and didn’t want it to end.
THEN.... we played games! Janell brought some really fun games to play, and one night a few of us played “Whacky Six” - a really fun game with numbered cards. Erin was a little too good at it - though no one could beat JANELL!! 😀 Darla and I were both trying for last place, and I think she beat me! ☺️
The most hilarious game was one I don’t know the name of. But we sat around, trying to get our team to guess the words or names on our cards. The last round, we could only pantomime it. Though some chose to “hum” little catchy tunes, such as.... the tune to “frito bandito” commercials of long ago.... Kathy Rae!! I don’t think I’ve seen her laugh that hard in YEARS!! (Maybe I haven’t laughed they hard in years)
And there was another tune hummed by .... Jenni? Janell??
I just remember laughing my head off!! That was a ton of fun!
Oh, the talks, oh the funnnn... great memories!! I love you all!!
